GOD Understands

“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” – Romans 8:26

Recently, my wife and I attempted to remember and write down some of the humorous sayings that our children and grandchildren have come up with over the years. To us they are a very important and nostalgic part of our families’ past. Although others might shrug them off as unintelligible gibberish, we saw them much differently. One daughter, as a precocious four-year-old, loved to attempt words such as appropriate and opportunity. You can just imagine what they sounded like! Though we knew it was just baby talk, we thought we might have a budding young orator on our hands. They were milestones and are fondly remembered today.

Sometimes, as we pray, we may be glad that our words are not being recorded for everyone to hear. They are intended for God alone and may well include “groanings which cannot be uttered.” They may also include weeping and crying for a loved one who is unsaved, or for one who is very ill, or for any other of life’s many circumstances.

It could be that we are so perplexed that we actually don’t know what words to choose. Groanings may well be the best we can offer at the time. It might sound like baby talk, but the Lord hears it as intercession for lost souls. Since He knows the heart, the words are not as important as the spirit in which they are uttered.

It is in times like these that God chooses to bless us, and often we rise from prayer feeling that the Lord’s arm is around our shoulder, and we are safe and secure.

Dear Lord, Thank You for hearing my prayers and understanding my need even when I don’t understand it myself. Amen.

One Response to “GOD Understands”

  1. Greetings in jesus name. Indeed we do have a God who knows what we have need of before we ask. Romans 8:26 is a favorite verse along with Jude 20-21. I was scanning through some earlier posts. I notice much about current events; events which we know are heading toward the fulfilment of scripture. Jesus is returning and we all need to be watching as the days are growing increasingly dark and perilous. Thanks for posting. Have a blessed day in Christ.
